Tin Can Wall

May 30, 2008

I was just blown away by this wall with tin can tops applied to it over at Apartmenttherapy. The creative re-use was for a bedroom suite decorated by White Webb in this year’s Kips Bay Decorator Show House in New York.

The No-Contact Jacket is a wearable defensive jacket created to aid women in their struggle for protection from violence. When activated by the wearer, 80,000 volts of low amperage electric current pulses just below the surface shell of the entire jacket. This exo-electric armor prevents any person from unauthorized contact with the wearer’s body. If an assailant were to grab hold of the wearer the high voltage exterior would interrupt their neurological impulses which control voluntary muscle movement. The neuromuscular system would be overwhelmed causing disorientation and loss of balance to occur and of course pain. The pain experienced is non-lethal but is enough to effectively and immediately deter contact with the wearer and provide a critical life saving oppurtunity for escape.

Sports Furniture

May 29, 2008

I want this pull up bar…I’d put it in my bedroom…and then when I’ve used it twice and went back to eating ice cream and sitting on my couch I can still use it as a very attractive clothes hanger. A perfect solution if you don’t have closets…

USB Phone Charger

May 29, 2008

I have problems with keeping my cell phone charged, especially now that I’m carpooling and can’t charge it while I drive, and I don’t know why but I never think to plug it in when I’m at home. This USB phone charger is light and compact and has an auto-retract design so it doesn’t get tangled up like a regular charger and is easy to carry, so I can charge my phone while I sit at my computer.

RSS Feed

May 29, 2008

I recently got an email concerning whileiwork‘s RSS feed. Apparently there is a problem with getting my site added to a reader. I looked into this and found that if you add  /feed/ to the blog address when adding it to the reader it will work (least it did when I tested it on my google reader). Please let me know if anyone else continues to have any difficulties.

Drink Carrier

May 28, 2008

I saw this drink carrier ages ago but then couldn’t find it when I wanted to post about it. It’s such a wonderful, simple idea that I knew it would make the rounds again at some point. Unfortunantely, I didn’t find out which retailer has them (they seem to be from Germany), but I still wanted to share them.

Wall Straps

May 23, 2008

These would be a fun way to hold kids toys and what-not…or a bright storage idea for a entry/mudroom.

These wall straps can be used to hold things right against the wall. The further apart you place the two end screws, the more tension on the strap and the tighter the hold.

May 23, 2008

this miniature lamp combines form with function by using the battery alone as its base. Though incredibly petite, it, surprisingly, packs quite a punch; with the supplied D-Cell battery, you’ll get 150 hours of light from an LED bulb that should last over a decade.
