Surya Dishtowels

April 21, 2009

I love these dishtowels….and they’d look fantastic in my kitchen….yet there is no way I can allow myself to pay $46 for 3 dishtowels

if you can, they can be purchased from le souk

MOSS SUND Architects and Fig Forty have created the fantastic CISTA Rainwater Harvesting System. The harvesting system provides 100 gallons of rainwater storage within an 8-foot vertical planted frame. Below right is the concept featured at the 2009 Interior Design Show in Toronto…..sure beats the typical barrel collection method!

Zizmor Residence

March 12, 2009

As I’ve posted before I have this thing for horizontal wood fences, screens, etc. So one glance at Brad Zizmor’s  gorgeous deck off his small New York City apartment and I’m completely smitten. Zizmor is an architect with a + i architecture in NYC and recently had his apartment renovation written about in Dwell Magazine.

Propeller Necklace

March 11, 2009

I love these propeller bead necklaces by Formfire Glass Works. Each of the pieces is handmade from Italian, German or American glass.

My Paper Bag

February 25, 2009

I’m completely smitten with Ramon Middelkoop leather bag that was designed to look like a paper bag. It can be purchased through goodforall …. which unfortunantly is not in Eenglish.

Lazerian Bracelets

February 19, 2009

The Manchester-based practice Lazerian has launched a jewelry line of bracelets made from polypropylene, held in place with brass fittings.

Storage Beds

February 10, 2009

I have a thing for beds with built in storage underneath. It looks clean, simple and stops the unavoidable build up of junk under your bed (which I have tons of). This is my current favorite.

 Room & Board

January 22, 2009

I just made the mistake of showing these Crayon Sculptures by Herb Williams to my kids. Now they want to break all their crayons and try to make one!

Cosmetic Safety Database

January 21, 2009

So I’m getting older, I’m not going to say how old, but it’s old enough that the lies have started. So has the obsessing with skin creams and wrinkle reducers. I was even toying with buying the TNS Recovery Complex made from human fibroblast conditioned media or human foreskin (ha! ew!).

I’ve settled on various over the counter creams and have read here and there about the potential harm that the ingredients in these creams could cause, but never delved into researching what I was actually putting on my face. Then today I stumbled onto the site SkinDeep Costmetic Safety Database … you type in your product and it tells you how that product is going to kill you, on a scale from  1-10.

If your like me you have multiple bottle openers. Thrown in drawers, stuck to your frig, one on my key chain, I even have one that is shaped like a credit card to fit in my wallet. Yet this Carved Wood Elephant Bottle Opener makes me want what I obviously don’t need (which is usually the case).

Paintbrush Holder

January 14, 2009

Some ideas are so simple that it makes me mad that I didn’t think of them myself and patent the idea! …. this is one of them. I already use a magnetic strip to hold my paintbrushes and tools so why didn’t I think of this?

Bocci Pendant Lighting

Garage Door

January 8, 2009

Just saw these great garage doors on Blue Ant Studio.

Ice Laterns – Update

January 8, 2009

So it was finally cold enough for my ice latern balloons to freeze and they looked fanastic once I took the balloon off. However, when I tried to light a tea light beneath it, the lack of oxygen put out the flame immediately. Any thoughts?

Ice Laterns

December 23, 2008

I just read about ice laterns and can’t wait to try and make one.

I’m going to try the balloon method….don’t want to spend the money on a mold…

Wrapping Gifts….cont.

December 23, 2008

Alright so here are some more of the wrapping ideas that I’ve accumulated… sorry I can’t link to where I found them

simple silver tissue paper  spruced up with ribbon (I don’t particularly like the ones they’ve used but you get the idea)

I also found some great tags on Etsy

Lilli Light

December 11, 2008

I’ve posted before about side tables & desks that double as a book mark but this one has the added bonus of having a light. Not to mention that the light contains a sensor that turns off the light when an open book is placed on the shelf. When the book is picked up again,
the light automatically turns on. Lili Lite also has a switch to turn the light on and off manually.

Wrapping Gifts

December 2, 2008

I have this fascination with ways to wrap gifts. I tend not to do half of them because I’ve come to the conclusion that no one in my life would appreciate the time and effort I would ultimately put into it. So I thought I’d share my stockpile of ideas for those of you that are lucky enough to have people that would appreciate it.

I’ll start with my most recent finds since I can offer you a link for them. They are from Design*Sponge.

Here’s another pom pom idea from the same site that recycles a Target bag

I believe these are from Making It Lovely, from some time ago.

some fun with ribbon

these are actually wrapped up rolled quarters (or whatever coins you wanted to use), striped paper or plain paper with a ribbon stripe and finished with a clear cellophane.

Here’s something much simplier but still looks well thought out.

I believe I have a bunch more but I think I’ll put them in another post.

Silver Ornament Garland

December 1, 2008

I was just at Pottery Barn over the holiday weekend and noticed the decorated tree in their window. It had this gorgeous silver ornament garland on it that I am absolutely obsessed with now. Unfortunetley the picture on their website doesn’t do it justice, which is probably just was well because it is ridiculously priced (and it only looked to be about 4 feet long).

Lacking Inspiration

October 28, 2008

So I orginally planned on taking September off from posting and that kind of led its way thru October as well. I’m just not seeing much these days that strike me as post worthy. I feel like I’ve seen it all before…So I guess I’ll just wait to post till I see something that I really like…

Jackson Stripe Rug

September 29, 2008

The Jackson Stripe Rug from Crate and Barrel has hand-tufted stripes take their color from the other side of the rainbow, graduating from muted to bright and back again. Wool is blended with durable modacrylic for the look and luster of New Zealand wool, without the shedding.

Auburn Smart Base Desk Lamp

September 18, 2008

The lighting found in high-end business hotels inspired the design of this multitasking desk lamp by Pottery Barn. Featuring our innovative Smart Technology™, it has two outlets in its base to provide a centralized spot to charge electronics.

September 16, 2008

I have a problem with hanging pictures, and I have the blank walls to prove it. So I’ve been collecting inspirations for the day I get brave enough to pick up my hammer and actually hang something. Thought I’d share them with you, in case any one else has my problem.
